    Ok,so i've just ordered my first Taiyo yuden batch,the ones i referred to,100 dvd-r's.
I hope they are ok. Been buying a lot of dvd-r's lately,i have 8x sony's,16x verbs and now 8xTY's
I only use them for PS2 backups. Are DVD-R's better then dvd+r's for PS2? Or is that from situation to situation?

I used to use CMC alot so its first-nature for me to write at 4x.

Garmoon: Both my Samsung & NEC drives do not support DVD-RAM.
But id still like to see how those Made in America Panasonic DVD-RAM discs measure up to the competition.

V.4 PS2's and later will read DVD+R's booked to DVD-ROM fine. At first I used TYG02 for PS2 games. After reading up on DVD+R's, I decided to give TY 8x DVD+R's a try. Low and behold, I had the same success and then some. Most of my quality scores on DVD+R's are higher. They say once you make the switch to DVD+R's booktyped to DVD-ROM, you won't go back. That was true in my case. I'm officially on the DVD+R bandwagon. Yuden000T02 is my favorite media right now.

this is my first big burn with the new firmware,i'm afraid crossflashing wasn't very good..Or not? What caused the big one in the middle?

Now that i crossflashed it,can i go back to a previous firmware version,to check if that's better for my media?
I'm using B7W9 now,so can i just go back to B7P9 by using the exe file of that firmware?I assume yes, since i crossflashed it to to b firmware.

I wouldn't bother, at least not yet. 91 is still a very good score. 91 was the lowest I got from a 50 pack of TY DVD+R's, the average was probably around 96. You can't evaluate anything after a couple burns, you need to get 20+ burns under your belt before you can start to identify some patterns.

I burn everything at either 4x or 8x. I only use taiyo yudens and verbatims. 4x on taiyo yudens and both 4x and 8x on verbatims. seems that i get better scores when writing 4x on 16x verbatims, but I sometimes burn at 8x just to speed it up a lil. 8x still give me good scores though.

Yes that's the danger of quality scores. A 99 looks pretty, but could still be a coaster. A 59 is ugly, but may play perfectly. It's a good benchmark, nothing more.

Frankly, I believe that the 'ScanDisc' function is more important regarding disc function than the 'DiscQuality' scan is ... Ifin' ya have no bad sectors, the disc outta play José ...

Ok, so Ive been using the new tys I got, and at first the game played pretty good, but now it takes FOREVER to load even the start menu. Some of my burned games' background music skips too. The ps2 also takes a while to load the swap magic disc. Did I get some fakes and they burned out my laser? Whats going on?

It definitely sounds like you may want to clean your laser.

    65. Q. I suspect my laser could be dirty. Should I use a lens cleaner or open my PS2 and clean the lens with a Q-tip and rubbing Alcohol?
    A. Avoid the lens cleaners. They have the potential to scratch the lens making matters worse. The best strategy is to open your PS2 and clean the lens with a Q tip and rubbing Alcohol.

    109. Q. I'm getting Disc Read Errors left and right, I've tried everything and still can't get my PS2 working. I'm at my wit's end, what do I do?
    A. Assuming your laser isn't dead and you're using quality media or originals, then check this fantastic PS2 Repair Guide. (Thanks to Boobooman):

Ok, thanks. Ill try cleaning the laser; is should be easy since I have the flip top- I wont have to take it apart. Any suggestions on what brand of alcohol to use? (I want to make sure I dont use any crappy kinds)

Just a follow-up to my message last week. I've been playing around with quality scans of TY vs. MCC 004 media on an older Plextor burner (712A). I think this drive simply does better with TY 8x media :).

Went to Best Buy (mid-west US location) last night to scope out the supply of Sony DVD+Rs, on sale for $15 from March 26-April 1. They had about 50-60 spindles, but only five or so were MIJ/TY. On the other hand, they had tons of DVD-R MIJ. I'm going to snap up the +Rs I can. I hope these discs don't go the way of Fuji MIJ, which I can't find anymore. I may have to go the mail-order route with supermediastore.

I notice that I'm like an addict. I've got about 180 TYs stockpiled, but I'm still afraid I'll run out, so I've got to buy even more! Fortunately, I've got a nice BB gift certificate from Xmas that I haven't spent yet.

    Lol. I'm the same way. I wish I could find the TY DVD+R's for $15, that's a great deal! I've got about 200 TY's stockpiled, 100 each of TYG02/Yuden000T02. I prefer the later. I love the TY DVD+R's, and I'm pretty sure that's what I'm going to request for my B-day. There's 200 TY 8x DVD+R's on sale for $87 on supermediastore.com. That's a pretty good deal.
