Well i have not gotten a ps3 yet and i am wondering if i should even get one if this gta4 game freezes on all the systems, should i just go out and get a system or wait until gta4 is fixed, because i plan on playing the updated gta4.

All games have this problem when they're first released these days, it seems its just a fact of console life now. imo if you're gonna wait anyway I'd wait and get the MGS4 edition PS3 that comes out in June; because we don't know when or if gta4 can even be patched to solve the freezing problem.

There update would be released over the internet, and when we mean freeze we mean the game essentially locks up and the only way to turn it off is to do it manually with the PS3 switch.

Dont think you have to turn it off by the switch. I think that may eventually damage the console if you do it that way. The one and only time GTA4 froze on me is the day of release when I left it on pause and came back after 2 hours. I jsut held down the power "button" to shut down and that worked. I have recently played the game and left it on pause almost over night, and Ive had no issues.

Yes it is MUCH safer to turn it off by holding the power button, gives the ps3 time to think before shutting down.

Thats what I had meant I just didn't know what to call it because technically it isn't a button or a switch, thinking back now I suppose calling it a touch sensor is the correct word for the front PS3 power button.

Will keep playing around but no luck after 2 tries.Original 60g ps3. Shouldnt be display issues I have seen in other posts as tv will only do 480i and PS3 is set for that display setting.Any help appreciated .

I havent had too many problems with login in since I set my PS3 up with a static IP and opened all my freakn ports on that IP.
On the freezing issue, I decided tonight to erase and start a new game, as directed by others to be a "fix" for the freezing... Not even 5 min into the game I was watching the TV in my House on GTA, I left it on and went to put my daughter to bed, came back 5 min later and it was froze up!!!!! I tired of this crap.. Im glad I saved my previous save on USB.. Obviously the data erase idea doesnt work everytime or it never did and it was just people hopeful/wishful thinking....or coincidence... Anyway here is the video I posted on YOUTUBE and MYSPACE

    MYSPACE VIDEO OF LOCKUP!

Finally got game to start after loading the third time I actually got up and rebooted the ps3 from the main power switch to get it working in case anyone else is having this problem - seems to work fine after that.

When did you get your ps3? I know you have a 60 ntsc, but I have the same PS3 and it has only locked up once. I hope for your sake it is worked out with a potential 2.31 firmware. I report a launch ps3 working with only one lockup during several hours play.

I originally came here to post my opinion about GTA4. IMO it is not worth a 10. I would give it an 8. GTA is a classic series, and I looked forward to being in Liberty City again, but WTF. I remember Shoreside Vale, Portland, and Staunton Island. Why change the layout of the map. Expand yes, change no. Please don't get me wrong, GTA4 is a PS3 classic and is a must have, but it is not the best game in history as some critics have deemed it.

Damn, it sucks to hear about all this freezing. As I said in a previous post, I did fall victim to a freeze. But since then, I've yet to experience it. I think I can attribute it to my marathon 8-hour session on launch day. I haven't played that long in one sitting since and I haven't had any problems either (although I do understand that this isn't the situation for everyone).

All this freezing reminds me of a more serious issue like what happened with Assassins Creed, that was patched quickly, i hope this will be to.

Ive only had it ever fully freeze once, with over 20hrs of play so far. Once on one certain mission, and a couple of minor freezes lasting for no more than five seconds.
Havent had a go at online yet, but from what I hear its pretty hit-and-miss as to whether or not it works for some people. I dont believe that deleting your data is any kind of fix, it would just be coincidence.
Glad to see its not just PS3 that is suffering problems but I dunno how rockstar managed to overlook such a major issue.

    @ooZEROoo
It was never meant to be a remake of GTA3, its meant to be an entirely new city that just happens to have the same name. The layout is basically the same anyway.

I'm at 15% and it just started last night. I had some people over last night to play it, and we were looking forward to it, and of course it froze the first time we tried it. Now it still doesn't work.

My game showed no signs of freezing until after I started to play multiplayer. The only thing I thought was going to be an issue was the constant HDD usage. I assumed tht if I play the game alot the HDD will wear out because it's used heavily and constantly while playing the game.
