I was having the same problms a couple days ago.

My ISP is Be Broadband. And after looking through their forums found many people found that it was their router causing the problems. As Be supply their own router, a Thompson Speedtouch 780 already configured some people think it's not a router problem.

Almost all of them said when they used a different router the problems just disappeared and they connected without any problem.

They also recommended Netgear routers. So I took out my old DG834Gv3 router set it up with the same config as my BeBox, and when I tried to connect to an online GTA4 game, it worked like a charm! No problems at all! :D

So if you do have another router try using that router instead of your current router or modem.

Aww man i too have a router which is supplied by the company. I have the BT Home Hub and cant change router because my dad works for the company and we get free internet if we use it.

Arghh i just want to play GTA online without problems - it was so fun at my mates house :(

Not sure about BT, but a router is just a router. After you configure a router with the same settings as a BT Home Hub it should work.

i'm in the exact same boat it seems uncanny. dad working at BT...using the home hub...getting disconnected and being forced to wait until it loads up single player before trying again.

It does work but will only connect 25% of the time so if i ever do get into a game i stay until A) i need to go asleep or B) everyone leaves.

try reconfiguring your audio and visual settings on the ps3 and if that doesnt work turn off the ps3 normally, then turn it back on holding the on/off button until you here 2 bleeps like this

    hold,bleep,hoooolllldddd,bleep,ps3 turns on.

happy to help when you post in the right thread ;)

For those who cannot play GTA4 with a BT Home Hub.

Apparently you cannot connect because some of the ports required my GTA4 are blocked by the Hub. So you need to open them. you can probably find the ports you need to open at portforward. If it works someone may want to post to confirm this.

Just googled it and found this:

In order to play GTA IV via the PS3 network you will need to open the following ports on your router:

    UDP ports:

    6672, 28900

    TCP ports:

    8000-8001, 27900, 28900

The fact that you have to go trough that trouble is ridiculous. whoever gave this game a 10 should be ashamed. don't get me wrong... i love this game but it's a headache (for the serious gamer) at the same time.

This is an email I sent to Sony:

I purchased the 60GB PS3 model from Amazon.com on April 10, 2007. It ran perfectly all this time up until today, May 21, 2008. Here is a link to a picture to show that I actually did order it from Amazon. http://img249.imageshack.us/my.php?image=ps3amazonpurchaseproofid0.jpg

Now... my PS3 does not want to read disks anymore. The last thing I did was play Grand Theft Auto 4. You guys should probably know by now that GTA4 is causing several types of failures in different PS3s of every kind of model. Now... I also have Yellow Dog Linux installed on my PS3. The very same operating system endorsed by your company, Sony. With YDL, I can STILL read and access DVDs, CDs, and even BDs. This leads me to believe that the problem lies in the XMB firmware. I believe we need some kind of firmware update that may allow the PS3 to handle this game without having it **** up on someone who lives in a 3rd world country where the majority of the population makes less than 100 dollars a month.

I'm a loyal Sony customer. I've owned a PSX since 1997. A PS2 since 2002, and a PS3 since 2007. I also have a PSP Slim and a regular PSP. I love your products, but this is inexcusable. I need some kind of answer. Any answer.

I want you to e-mail a copy of this to everyone in your department and in every other department you have access to.

I want your supervisors and their supervisors to known about this. I want this to be know to everyone. I will go on every forum possible and every board I find and tell everyone about this until Sony fixes this. How can a game do this? How can 1 little disk destroy a 10 pound piece of hardware? This is ridiculous.

    Bummer.

Well all I can say is migrate to Be or O2 customer service may be a bit lacking but for a real 18mb connection that I have, it's the best ISP I have ver used. Though some people in the large cities are complaining a bit about slow speeds, it's just that more ppl are using on-demand tv so using more bandwidth. But since im in a town I still get a good connection :D

Lol im in the middle of the country and get S**t connection, for example watching one youtube video takes double the time of the video to load.
But online games dont lag so no biggy for me.

Update: Changed the router now and it works like a charm :)
