As you can see from this official document: (page 17 figure 3.3) http://www.blu-raydisc.com/assets/downloadablefile/2b_bdrom_audiovisualapplication_0305-12955.pdf Blu Ray HD content is going to be either 1080p@24p, 1080i@60i or 720@60p (1080i@50i and 720@50p respectively for PAL countries). Although it is stated in the document that the specs are not finalised yet, I don't expect a change in those resolutions especially when considering the lack of time remaining to the launch of BD movies. This means there will not be Blu-Ray HD content at 1080@30p or 1080@60p. 1-Do you guys think this is unfortunate? I personally am sad of not having a broader choice and to be obliged to content myself with 1080@24p if not an inferior resolution. 2-Do you think 1080@60p or 30p would provide a better or at least a different viewing experience than 24p would?
No, current sets can't achieve anything greater and I havn't heard any plans for that to change anytime soon. Yes, 30 and 60 fps would provide a different experience. That experience wouldn't necessarily be better just because the frame rate is higher. Film has wowed us (movie lovers) for years and its frame rate is 24 fps. When extra frames are added it creates playback that is filled with artifacts if not handeld properly. Displays with reverse 2-3 pulldown are nice to have because of that fact, they are able to take film content at 30fps on DVD and return it to 24fps when diplayed. I think 1080 at 24 fps will be fine. The ignorant will be unaffected and when sets that can do 1080p @ 60fps come around there will be players that turn 1080i 30 into 1080p 60. Excellent questions! Ced

I wasn't sure about HPs ability to display 1080p @ 60fps since it uses wobulation but apparently it can fully resoulve a 1080p60fps image. It would be an immaculate viewing experience. I'm not saying 1080p@60fps isn't somthing to be desired. I was only saying that it isn't needed for film transfers. A 1080p football game at 60fps would be amazing. I can't wait untill all movies are shot with digital cameras. Some of the most beautiful movies I have ever seen, Sin City and Star Wars 3, where shot using 4K (4096x2160) cameras!
