Ok, I had another thread about upgrading my current PC, I might just upgrade the video card and move on. My issues start with the fact that I have never built my own PC, I have always used AMD and ATI cards, and not sure much else about anything. I would be re using my monitor, keyboard and mouse, as well as speakers, along with my lightscribe drive and hard drive if possible. The hard drive and light scribe drive along with monitor and keyboard/mouse are the ones that came with the HP a6203w Desktop. I am not looking for an awesome system, just something to run all my games, with a lot of video capablities. I was thinking along the lines of some dual core or quad core 2.6 to 3.0 processor, with an ATI 4770 HD card, or better (if there is one better in that same price) PSU, not sure yet, or the MoBo or the case, these are the areas I am dark in. I looked, but didn't find any, but if I missed any threads that deal with and outline your first gaming computer build, direct me to them. I apologize if I seem to be repetitive or a PITA. Oh, and BTW this build will happen over the next year or so, as considering I only have 150 to 200 bucks a month to spare on this. Thanks so much, afterdawn.com has always helped me.
Well theres no point in building over the next year. The best thing to do is simply save until you have enough to buy everything at once. The reason is that the technology will change alot over the next year, as it does every year. Intel is getting ready to roll out several new Core i series processors like a Core I3 and i5 i believe. On the video card side of things, DirectX11 cards are hitting stores late this year. With that said the Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad chips are bound to drop in price, and the same for DX 10 cards, so what we build for a price now may end up being a waste of money as with the wait you could really be out bang for buck on your system. As for having a HDD, I might consider an upgrade on that to depending on the specs of the HDD. None the less what I can tell you for now, is Intel is no doubt the market leader these days. AMD isnt bad there just not what they used to be. ATM I believe ATI does hold the edge on the video card market.
