If you've changed your blank media brand that could be a likely reason for your new problems. Try Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim branded media. Burn no faster than 8x or 6x on 16x discs.

I agree with Peshtigo. Just wondering Carbira1, what brand are you using now? and did you just change brands? and if you did, what were you using?

    *EDIT*
Also, -R,+R, RW's make a difference too. I believe the -R plays better in most DVD players. Someone can correct me if I am wrong.

+R's booktyped to DVD-ROM plays best of all.
After that, I believe it is -R

I don't know. I've been using Verbatim plus R discs for years. Nine times out of ten I forget to change the book type and they play on all machines they're tried on anyway. Must be why I don't think about it. I use Imgburn and I know I can change the settings, I just haven't yet.

Lots of older players have trouble with the cheaper 16x disks.. regardless of brand or dye. Some just don't like 16x disks full stop.
It's getting hard to find 8x disks which is why I kept a stash of 5000 cheap samsung (optodisk and fine for general use) for people I know have old players.
