Hi all. Just whacked in an older copied dvd (orange bulkpack) in my dvd player, and worked ok for a bit but then later became all blocky and stopped working. SO i tried another old dvd (bulkpaq) and same thing happened. SO I put them in my dvd reader on my PC both took a long time to read and came up with IO errors. Put in a newly copied dvd (daton) and it worked fine. These older copied dvds used to work fine with no errors. Also while reading the disc it reads at normal speed until the end of the disc where it will read at around 0.5%. Edit: Ok just checked all of my older bulkpaq copied dvds, none of them work on my pc or dvd player without errors. This is terrible considering I cant even copy my old copies onto new daton discs due to the IO errors. Tried to get around them and it isnt happening. Annoying, any ideas?
you need to backup your old discs roughly every 5 years as there is some documented proof that although they say media will last 100 years, in actually fact it seems its only 3 to 5 years. If you look up some of scubapetes posts, i think you'll find an article he did on this topic.
You should be using better quality media for starters - bulkpack or daton are not renowned as quality media. Try using Verbatim, Ritek or TY's If you have labels on your burnt disks try removing them and see how they play
Just found out its the sticky labels that are causing it. All my dataon discs dont have sticky labels. Going to recopy alot of my dvds. This is the IO error i get on most dvds, happens on 2 computers http://img529.imageshack.us/img529/1913/dvddecno4of.png
