I;m an oldie trying to learn new technology. Maybe someone here can give me some direction. I have some concert dvd's I bought and I play them in my 5 disk dvd player. The problem is they go through all the extras. Like discussions, and people outside the show and menus. I would love to be able to copy just the actual concert part of the dvd onto a disk and just let the shows repeat in my dvd player. I would also like to edit my home movies and put them on dvd. Can someone tell me the easiest way to get a good quality copy of these? I read on here about any dvd and video clone. Do I need both of those? Is this the best way to do it? Thanks so much if you can help.
you sound like me about 3 yrs ago! Let's get right to it... oh..... you come to the right place to learn about DVDs and more... Welcome to Afterdawn. First off there's no fast and easy way of doing what you describe but if you start to learn it will come get easier! Editing DVDs and taking out unwanted stuff is not hard to do just a little complicated to newbies, like yourself. I suggest that you get your 21 day trial of AnyDVD & CloneDVD2. These programs will take out encryptions and burn your DVD with ease and it's very user friendly... even a newbie will be happy with them: http://www.slysoft.com/en/ and here is a guide for you so you'll know what you're doing: http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/BACKUP WITH CLONEDVD&ANYDVD.pdf this will get you on your way to becoming a DVD burning expert! Now the editing stuff...... It's just a matter of learning the software and what you want to do. There are plenty of software out there that will edit DVDs and then burn them. I have my favorites and learned how to use them really good so I can do anything I want to a DVD! It took some time but I like DVDRemaker Pro. When I first started using this program it seemed overwhelming, but, with persistance and determination I became a pro with this program .... it does everything..... I can take out warning screens, Menus, edit menus, make a flipper disk into one DVD, take out the previews and the director comments and more! Here is where you can download it... but it's not free: http://www.dimadsoft.com/dvdremakepro/index.php there are guides there, too. but............. You can use Voblanker to edit out things too! and it's free..... here ya go: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/293994http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/293994 in this guide you can download DVDShrink.... another great free program and just follow the guide! Sooooooo now you have some of the easiest and great programs that do everything...... there's more! If you want to learn more then read this: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/183136 and now you're equipted with what you need to do things and solve some of the questions you had. now you asked about those home video movies that you have to convert it to DVD..... there are a # of ways to go......what format are these movies? ARe they on VHS or 8MM ...... if they are on VHS then you can hook up your VCR to your computer and then use a program to capture your video and use that software to edit or make menus and more. but that's another story........ oh and here is more tips: here are some guides for you: http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/guides.htm don't know what programs you have to use to burn your movies that are on the hard drive? here are some other programs that many members love and use all the time: DVDDecrypter, download it from here: http://fileforum.betanews.com/download/DVD_Decrypter/1011845169/1 Although this program is not updated any more it's one of the best free programs that does EVERYTHING and still works for older movies that are at least a year old or older. And even works with some newer movies that didn't put in the newer encryptions. Use the guides that I gave you (above). DVDFab Decrypter download it from here: http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm when DVDDecrypter can't rip the movie to the hard drive(newer encryptions---the new movies) then use this program to rip to the hard drive.... it's free AnyDVD & CloneDVD2 download it from here: http://www.slysoft.com/en/ this is not freeware..... but it lets you have a 21 day trial period to use the programs and they work great on new movies and old and are updated often. So if new encryption come out on those new movies just released these programs will already have the updates! Shrink download from here: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_... this is another freeware program that does many movies and you can reauthor a movie to the way you want it... good program for newbies with the guides and these programs you should be well on your way to burning DVDs to your hearts content! enjoy........ some tips of the trade: 1. use good media will stop many problems you might run into. Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, Maxell, Sony..... look for the ones Made In Japan. the exception to this rule is Verbatim. 2. burn at half the rated speed of your media (if the disk is an 8x media speed then burn at 4x). This will stop reading errors from your player. 3. Don't burn too close to the edge of the media. 4484MB is the max and on good media you can go as close as 4400.... to be sure I only go up to 4384MB just in case and I use Taiyo Yuden where I know my buddies go up to 4400 without any problems. 4. keep your firmware up do date..... this will make your writer recognize all the disks and burning speeds and other improvements with the software of your drive. just some things to consider when burning DVDs..... there are many more things to learn but this is a good start! If you want to read more and learn more then this is a good thread to read: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/183136
WOW. Thank You so much. I grew up in an era with no phone and no television. All this is so overwhelming for me. I truly appreciate your help. Hope I can do this for my children.
take it slowly...... absorb what you learn and you'll do just fine! Let the programs do the work and THE FORCE WILL BE WITH YOU! ahahhahahahahha
My home movies are recorded on mini DVC. I would love to be able to make a highlight DVD of my grandson where he has made everyshot. There is quite a bit of stuff I would like to edit out. I would also like to be able to add some stills and music to the DVD I create. Is this possible? Thanks again for help. I appreciate it.
I converted my VHS tapes to DVD... yes the quaity is analog, not digital so the quality isn't that good.... but I was able to convert to DVD using Dazzle Hollywood bridge and it's software. The bridge hooked up to your computer and you can hook your camer right up to the bridge....... now some cameras already can be hooked up directly to your computer by USB. If you have that then you don't need the Dazzle hardward and just need the software. You need a capture program and windows already has a capture program, Windows Movie Maker. there are plenty of other programs that are out there that will do the job. I haven't done this in years and I suggest that you find someone that will help you out in doing this. I used programs that I don't even have on my new computer now. Start a new thread in the forum for DIGITAL CAMERA and ask for advice there like this thread: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/395255 some one will help you there. sorry its' been a very long time since I did this kind of job. good luck.... but you've come to the right place to find out!
I looked at one of those generic bridge gizmos at BJ's my wholesale club and it was $40.00. It was a USB and you could hook up your camcorder, VHS or whatever. Thought about trying it out, but have not gotten around to it yet.
I use to record from my DVR that way... capture video that way from the DVR to the hard drive...... the video is very bad...... it's analog... not digital....... and putting it on a DVD is easy once you transfer the video and audio. The last time I used it I recorded the Yankees Oldtimers Game in 2003 and then transfered it to the computer to DVD. It looks like a washed out movie from the olden days, but I got it on DVD!
I tried to transfer some of my old VHS recordings to DVD using my Panasonic DVR and they came out washed looking too. But I have found that going back and viewing VHS tapes on the new TV's look pretty bad in general, I once thought VHS was the greatest, now it is like scratchy phonograph records
Off subject but you still can't beat the phonograph half speed masters. Their decibal range is wider than a cd.
