I just put the hard drive from my old computer into my new computer. Being exited and in a hurry, I transferred the iTunes music file, iTunes library (Music database file),and iTunes music library (xml document)and expected this to work. duh! How can I regain access to my iTunes library?
this is the old hd of old computer, and what happends when you try to copy the files over, i have done it from external hd, so tell me what you seen when you try to copy this files over.
They seemed to copy just fine. I opened both drives, and proceeded to drag and drop the folders. Then I checked to see if they were in the new drive, and they were. When I open iTunes, even just to play a song, it can't find the files. These might be a factor: The old drive is XP, and the new computer is Vista. I downloaded iTunes to the new computer (meaning I didn't move the program from drive to drive). I don't think it's a vista problem, I think it's a matter of iTunes not allowing me to change computers. However, I don't what I can do now.
i had done the same from xp to vista with no problem, well try this, If you have your music on you're ipod get ipod copy. and transfer the music from your ipod back to your pc, just dont sync it or you will loose everything. This program works good, Ipod Copy let me know if it worked for you.
iPod copy did work for the most part. I was most concerned about purchased songs. Thanks for that tip. The rest of my library was cd's Which I can always redo if I have to. So you did the same with your drive. A topic for another day, maybe, but Im wondering if you can boot into both xp and vista. I'd still like to know how to get the rest of my library back, the songs that weren't in my iPod.
