I recently installed my OLD dvd writer because my newer one was sent back to Pioneer for some maintenance. I created several DVD Data discs with the new burner. Now that I am using the old writer, it wont read the Data discs created on the new one. When I put the disc in it reads it and shows the name of the cd next to the drive letter in My Computer. But when I click on it, it will not open as a folder so I can view it. When I right click on it, I can choose Auto Play (the disc is Mp3 backup), I can open it up with my media player and play the mp3's, but I can not view it as a file. What I am trying to do is copy a mp3 album to my desk top to burn it to a audio cd. Anyone have any ideas why this is happening? Or do I just have to wait to get my other drive back.
Did you try to click "Explore" when you right click on your drive? Or click copy and then paste where you want to copy the files.
Heres something from Microsoft support when changing out CD's and being unable to read files. Basically it consists of uninstalling the drive and re-scanning. I think the same could be done by uninstalling and rebooting. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q311455
