ok first off how old windows 98 requires a 233 mhz processor or faster
also requires 64 megs of ram

the windows 98 cd is self booting all you need to do is place it in your computer and it should boot

if it doesn't you will then need to go to your local computer store and have then reinstall the os for your computer

Windows 98 does not require a 233Mhz Processor. It will run on a 486 with 32MB of ram, however I would not recommend it. As long as it is a pentium class machine it will run ok.

Try downloading a boot disk from http://www.bootdisk.com/ there should be one there that will provide you with CD-ROM support to install Windows 98.

Sounds like a pretty old computer. Your computer may need specific drivers for the CD-ROM to be added to the Autoexec.bat and/or config.sys to load properly. It may be difficult to find such dos drivers and seeing as the computer only has 14MBs of Ram which is 10MB below the minumum requirements for Windows 98, I would say you are SOL. Windows 98 needs a 486 DX2 66MHz Processor and 24MBs of Ram and at least 300MB of HardDrive space for the minimal install. If you don't meet those then I would scrap your experiment.
