Hi everyone. I have an Olympus 725SW Digital Cameral with several XD Picture Cards. I was wondering if it is possible to put photos back onto the card from the computer. I am getting a digital photo frame that is capable of taking an XD Picture card but I want to be able which photos to put on the card. Am not sure if you can transfer back the other way to the card. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Your camera should appear as a folder on your pc, just like any small mass storage device. So long as you get the format right you can put pictures back on which the viewer on the camera will be happy with. Just drag and drop pictures into the folder.

I have used the works Olympus just like a pendrive. You can put any files you want on the storage area, the camera doesn't know they are there, but you can access them on any pc which has the drivers.

The only thing I don't like about the XD cards is the way they are physically different from normal sd cards and cost more ;)

You can certianly transfer your pictures from your XD card using any of the reader interfaces, do whatever corrections/croping you want and then re-load back to the card. Exactly like the little removable media it is.

It is physically different from the SD card just as also it is from a Compact disc card and a memory stick etc.

Thank you all for your help. I am assuming that I just put a blank XD Picture card back in the camera and then transfer my pictures back across & that the digital photo frame will be able to read them. Hope this is correct.

I'd suggest taking 1 picture in every frame size or pixel ratio the camera supports.. then transferring them to pc so you have a reference of supported sizes and formats for the camera viewer. You can make any image into a supported size and format that way with most image editing software.
You should be able to put pictures back into the camera in the reverse manner to taking them out.. same folder and same file name convention.. if the camera uses 000001.jpg - 00xxxxx.jpg for instance, name your pictures in a similar manner.

You may find that a new XD card needs formatting before you can use it. Our olympus does it when you put a new card in.. but some older ones don't, or the cards come pre-formatted.

Always worth putting a new card in while you have a pc available with a card reader just in case... I got stuck with an unformatted card and a camera which wouldn't format it on an outside job a couple of years ago... Embarrassing 0_0
