i have a few different xbox's, some i modded some i didnt. One of the xbox's that i did not mod has stopped working. When i turn it on the screen is black with an 12 in the top left corner. Since i didnt mod it i dont know what the mod chip is and i dont really want to get into it and break it(dont want to solder). Just wondering if anyone knows where to send of an xbox to be fixed or if anyone wants to do it. im sure its a quick fix and i will pay shipping and whatever labor there is. thanks!

That's a failed dvd drive or faulty IDE cable. Postage alone will cost more than an xbox is worth.

postage will not. Pack it in a flat rate box with cloth towels all over it. It's tight but fits.

Lets look at this realistically.. I live in England.. the poster doesn't say where he is so can but guess. UK postege for xbox £7.99.. + insurance £2 = £9.99.. add price of whatever packaging.. call it free.. Then the price of a replacement dvd drive.. we have a price list from a repair site right here.. http://www.consolewerks.co.uk/xbox_repair_price_guide.htm

so £19.98 postage + 29.99 for a drive (they say just laser.. but it needs a complete dvd drive so I'm being generous.. near £50

I can buy a fully working xbox locally retail with 90 days warranty for £25.. they have a lot of them on sale.. same company different location http://www.cashconverters.co.uk/item/165341/Video_Games_and_Consoles/microsoft_xbox_mk1_black/
    still cheaper.

Yeah it's cheaper. I was just stating you can mail them cheap. I do all the time for under $10. What is that 3 euros now.

Yeah.. depends a lot where you live.

It's probably still better to just buy something like an error16 box cheap off ebay and swap the dvd drive. It may be the IDE controller on the mobo, but I think if we saw this one we would find a horrid philips drive inside. The sammys and tommys seem to fail silently where the philips crash the IDE channel... still for £30 I would just buy a known working one rather than possibly spend as much as a new one with no guarantee of it ever working reliably again ;)

Also there's Gamestation and C.E.X here in UK, xboxes are usually around the £50 mark (usually with 4 games and all leads) but at least you do get 12mths warranty on them
