So here's my problem. I was attempting to softmod my friends xbox (this being my first time). I have a softmodded xbox (done by a friend) that runs unleashx.

    I copied the
SID5.Installer.ZIP and SID.Installer.SplinterCell.NTSC.zip exploits to the hard drive of my friends un-modded xbox to attempt to start the autoinstaller and backup the eeprom and c:\. The files copied successfully but then when I loaded splinter cell into the dvd-rom the xbox rebooted and now makes a clicking sound along with flashing green and red lights.

Why did this happen and is there anything that I can do?

Is there any way to get my friends xbox back to normal to try the softmod again? I read something about hotswapping a bad HD into a modded xbox to restore the ms dash, is this possible.

Thanks for any help or suggestions in advance!!!

Are you aware that .zip files are archives and there are files within them?

You need the files inside, not the zip file itself!

How did you get it to the HDD?

I copied the files to a USB Flash Drive using the action replay and 'usbview' froma pc. I inserted the flash drive into the xbox using a cable that I made and the xbox did indeed recognize it as a memory module. I then copied the Autoinstaller.zip and SplinterCell.zip files from the memory stick to the xbox hard drive.

This is where things went haywire. I thought I was supposed to insert the Splinter Cell and then open the linux game save which would execute the game exploit. But the xbox rebooted and there was a clicking sound??

I'm not sure what to do at this point. As i mentioned in my first post, I do have softmodded xbox that IS working. Is there a way to get the hard drive working again??

    Thanks!

I didn't think that just copying files to the xbox HDD would cause and irreversible harm. But it seems like it did. If there's anyway to recover the hard drive, i would really appreciate it. I wouldn't care so much if it was my xbox, but it's my friends and i feel bad.

    Thanks!

I booted up the xbox and it doesn't show an error code. Just says "Your XBOX requires service, please contact customer support" in 5 different languages.

I don't see any number on the screen. I tried to load a non burned copy of Halo 2 to see if that would reset the dashboard but the error came up after it sat at the XBOX logo screen for about 7 seconds.

    Please help!!!

Thanks for the info, I will attempt the Hotswap tonight. If I perform the hotswap, can i just do that on a bigger HDD (250GB) (i.e. not the original xbox HDD). If so, what is the most reliable way to softmod once the HDD is working and booting to the MS Dash?

    Thanks again!

All explained in my tutorials! Just get the stock drive going first before upgrading!

I followed your Hotswap guide several times, step by step using a 250 gb drive. The process completes and I reattach the HD and DVD cables. Turn off the XBOX and turn it back on and nothing. Same error, that is no error, just the 'your xbox requires service".

Why doesn't this xbox show an error code?? Is it too old?

I haven't tried hotswapping using the original HDD (that doesn't work) hoping maybe I can still salvage the eeprom somehow from it.

    Any other ideas??

    Thanks Again!

Sounds more like a v1.0 Xbox and your HDD is dead!

The first Xboxs didn't have an Error 07, that was added later!

Doesn't look good for your drive!

What's wrong with the old drive?

The old drive is clicking so I think it is dead. I did try to hotswap that one. I am going to try and return it...

    Thanks!
