I've been converting M-JPEG video shot on a Canon camera into MPEG4 ASP... and I've not really been happy with the XVID option. The original video (480x640 30fps) has a graininess to it and XVID (and DIVX) soften video too much even at generous bitrates of 2500-3000kbs. One scene of traveling down a back wooded road with rain drops on the windshield seemed to be a codec killer. Neither of these codecs could capture what was in the original. But I found another MPEG-4 option in XVID4PSP just called "Professional" and it seems to capture all the original detail/graininess and deal with the wet windshield problem. I checked the file in GSPOT to see what it was and it's called "DivX 4 (OpenDivX)". There's not much out on the web about this codec... and I've yet to test it on stand alone DIVX DVD players. Anyone else have any experience with it? Thanks!
