    Ok,

I have a Dell 4600 i put a new processor in it, new ram ( from dell )
I installed an operating system on the hard drive.
Jumper set to master, cd rom master on the secondary ide cable,

    everythings fine OS installs perfect.

goes to the desktop, for the first time,
i reboot right away on my own, and it comes up, Strike F1 to continue F2 for setup ( BIOS )

in the bios the hard drive is seen and so is the cd rom. but it will never boot to the desktop . its like it cant see the hard drive.. ive tried EVERY jumper ( and no jumper at all )and both IDE cables...

anyone know what might be wrong>

    Thanks

try doing a chkdsk c: /f . Sometimes when you have an abnormal shutdown it will corrupt the system files. You might need a bartpe or the windows installation cd to run the chkdsk command.

I have tested 3 hard drives. all the same thing.

It will install fine, go right to the desktop but when i restart manually, it comes up with that error..

forgot to say this processor is missing 1 pin on the outer edge, but dont think that has to do with it, since it runs the operating system, havent had any errors except this..

how many sticks of ram are you using because if at least 2 then try 1 at a time in each slot to see what happens? do you have or can borrow same type of ram to try out?

Ram is the same, as the old stuff, same mhz speed 512 mb.
I have never ever seen this problem before.. i dont think the missing pin has anything to do with that... but i will try taking out the ram once...

change the jumpers to cable select, it is a dell thing.
