operating system off my recovery disk?

    i was wanting to know if there is a way to take the operating system off the recovery disks that came with my computer? i bought a new toshiba laptop and it has vista on it. my desktop is a gateway xp media center. i tried to use my gateway recovery disks on my laptop it loaded the disks , reformated the hard drive and it did not work and i had to use the toshiba recovery disks to get the laptop working again. any help would be greatly appreciated.

    not possible. if you want to install xp, you will need the full version. it's going to take a while to get everything working because of vista being on the laptop; you will have to download drivers for most of the things.
