Anyone have any thoughts on either of these two receivers?
The Onkyo TX-SR504 or the Pioneer VSX816?

Looking to buy a new receiver. don't really need start of the art stuff as I'm not going to HDMI or very high-end speakers as I can't jack up the noise to theatre-like levels in this room.

Any opinions bad or good are appreciated!

I'll take a look at some reviews and see what they have to say.

@chozunone:....I took a brief look at both ....a 6.1 and a 7.1, neither have HDMI which isn't important to you anyway. I know from the other thread that you're going to be starting with those two sony speakers until you get something else (which means that you've got to make sure you select only the two fronts from the speaker selection menu as those avrs are set up for full surround.) Before continuing, let me ask you a question ... what are you going to be using this for? Both of these are audio/visual receivers ... are you planning to use them for a home theater and surround eventually or are you just looking to have a good two or three channel stereo for music? I just want to make sure that you're not looking at the wrong equipment for you needs and plans; do you really want an AVR or a good receiver for two channel stereo? ...Gerry

Going to use this for home theatre.
I plan to plug my DVd player, dvd recorder, ps2, Gamecube to this.
So i need component, svideo and rca connections ports in these receivers.

Need something to last me awhile and like to have the extra channels in case I move to beyond 5.1.

    Thanks
