opinons / advice in choosing the better tool (dvd to avi,etc.)....

hi all i have been trying to do some reading about this (getting dvd to avi or other formats)and came across a program that seems to be very much spoken highly of here at afterdawn ....
AutoGK - version ???
i cannot seem to be able to find any mention at all of ....
ultra dvd to divx converter (i can have access to version 3.0.1228, if this is the prefered choice. or if theres a better version please let me know)
what ive been trying to do is a side by side comparison to see wich is better.
OR even better - wanted to hear from all you guys & gals that have been doing this already for a while and getting really good results.
