I received a Gateway computer for early Christmas gift and noticed the dvd drive opens from button on side and not the front. This is a first for me.
Looking for second dvd drive for 2nd bay, but wanted to know do all drives have button both on front and side?

The model is HL-DT-ST-DVDRAM-GH41N. Couldn't find much on that after googling that...guess I'll contact Gateway. Just wondering though, if anyone else has a computer which the open/eject button of the optical drive is on the side of the tower in lieu of the front.

It's a really nasty drive.. it won't last long. (btw.. it's Hitachi/LG oem rebranded.. PQ04 firmware most likely.. so it's a QC fail out of the box.. as usual these days for off the shelf systems)

I wouldn't bother trying to find other drives with the buttons on the side.. they will probably just be junk like this.. Buy a proper branded burner, something like panasonic or samsung or something... not more hl-dt-st junk.. I bought 100 of them last year.. for £11 .. and stuck them in refurb systems... afaik they ALL failed within 4 months.. but.. no warranty from me on oem kit over 30 days use.

Thanks for your reply. The problem is that the eject button is on the side of the console of the tower. (Everything I have ever seen is on the front side) If I purchase a good lite-on, sony, samsung etc, will I be able to open it by pushing the button on the side.........
