i have been getting a lot of power calibration problems when trying to write dvds with this drive,i have noticed that these problems particularly appear after i have been using the drive to rip audio cds
Even after rebooting the computer, nero gives me the power calibration error.

However,i have found that if i shut down the pc and disconnect it from the mains for a couple of minutes, then reboot, the drive will record ok.

Is this normal or due to a faulty drive? - please help before i return the damn thing back to where i got it from

    regards

    Hi,

Power calibration errors are most often caused by low-quality media and/or a sub-par drive. Here's a link that explains:

That may not be such a bad idea. Optowrites don't exactly have a stellar reputation for quality and performance. With the Pioneer 107 (one of the best you can get) going for as little as $90 now there's no reason not to get one :)
