What media are you using? Like Sony +R 16x. Have you tried different media? It's an older drive so if you are using newer media the drive may not recognize it. For this drive I'd get media rated no higher then 8x - if you can find it. Here's the latest firmware - scroll down to DD0405 - 150l. Your best bet may be just to buy a new burner - if in the US you can pick up a good one at newegg.com for around $35.
