Hey all - so, I've been off the scene for a bit and am now really wanting to play Punch-out. I have the original Cyclowiz, without the firmware update to get past the 001 error. (I don't have the homebrew channel installed.) So, I was opening and patching the isos with Trucha signer to get past the 001s.. that is, until trucha stopped opening the newer isos for some reason. So this is question 1 - is there a newer trucha to open the more recent releases? Next, I burned punch-out and inserted, and I get "wii system update" in the "game channel" box. I didn't run it, and after reading this forum it sounds like before i upgrade to 4.0, i should install the homebrew channel, and then install the WAD to bypass the 4.0 trucha signed iso fix. Is that right? As a side note, is there any other indication that 4.0 will brick a wii with an older cyclowiz? Finally, once I've done the above, can I play punch-out by inserting the iso, then launching it from the homebrew channel, or will I still need to somehow open the iso and patch away a 001 error? (I am assuming this check is in here) Thanks for the help!
Your best bet would be to update using the Punch-out disc then update using the Wii update via WiFi. After that follow this guide HERE to softmod your system. This will softmod your system with a custom IOS and allow you to run IOS Downgrader which will downgrade and patch all IOS so the Trucha exploit will work. You will still use the Cyclo to play your backup disc or you can use the USB Loader and load games off a USB HDD device. You do not have to install the BUL3g.wad file since you already have the cyclo to boot your backups.
Per the above, I don't currently... and from what I have read, I should install that before performing the 4.0 update.
OK I updated the above post with the easiest way for you to get what you want done to be done. 4.0 firmware can be modded without HBC already installed. You are reading older threads. So look at my above post and follow the directions and you should be good to go.
Wow, thanks! Just curious, why do I need to update with punch-out then update with wifi? (I had assumed punch-out had 4.0 and 4.0 was the latest.. but could be wrong!)
There are some that had updated to 4.0 and punch-out still asked them to update. So I just figured it wouldn't hurt to update with Punch-Out first then go ahead and update via WiFi. So everything working now?
Would the Punch Out update work if you already updated to 4.0 and already performed the "NEW AND IMPROVED WII SOFT MOD GUIDE"? Or should I buy Punch Out, update through Punch Out and then update via Ninteno wifi and then perform Larry's guide. PS: Will the Punch Out update work for all newer games coming out? Thanks
Hey sir. So, I am almost there. I followed the instructions and have one problem and one question. I installed the IOS downgrader too. So, right now when I insert a game on which I used trucha signer, I get a black acreen with "an error has occurred" .. telling me to shut down the wii and consult the operations manual, yada yada. However, I can load the game (I tried SMG) from the backup channel, so it's not that big a deal, but ideally I'd like to be able to insert a trucha game and launch it via the usual channel. Second, I inserted the punch-out backup that I burned, and it's still telling me that i have to install a system update to play the game. This is *after* of course that i installed the update on the disc, then the update via wifi, then following the manual. How can I play punch-out on my newly softmodded wii?
Ahh, I did the cIOS38_rev13 and the downgrader, but I didn't do the "IOS60PATCH" .. is that it? (Re: the near-instant error when I insert a backup disc)
Sorry for being a TOTAL newb but can someone help me PM larrylje ? I checked his profile and didn't see a link to PM him. Sorry folks, but thanks!
Ok so I did the IOS60PATCH and now I can boot backups from the game channel just fine. Now for punch out - It still comes up as "wii system update" when I put in the disc (even though I did all the updates to 4.0 on the disc then wifi, it still says this, I guess because of the other softmods I put on after the 4. upgrade?) Anyway, I try to load it from the backup channel and it loads but then I get an error 002. Just wondering what to do from here. Thanks everyone for your help!
did you install the 002fix wad?, like larryje has written in his softmod guide? i have a wiikey but sh*t is useless once i update to 4.0 but i can play newer games now on the backup with no problem just follow the guide thoroughly.
