I want to try and make my sons old PS2 not the slimline the original one play backups of his games. I am NEW to all this and have looked around and seen alot of talk about the new slimline version mods. What is the cheapest mod for the older version PS2 so my son can play his backups? Step by Step instructions or youtube videos prefered. Any help would be very apreciated.

Well the cheapest method would probably have to be the Independence Exploit followed by action replay, then Swapmagic. Though if your son is going to be the one playing, I would recommend a chip instead. How old is your son?

he is going on 8. I seen the chips on dealextreme for real cheap but it required soldering and I know nothing about that.

There is a new mod out, called memor32. It is a plug n play mod for the ps2. You just plug it into a memory card slot and your ps2 is modded. When you burn games though you need to patch them. Also it is on the expensive side, even more than a chip.

Normally I would say go with swapmagic. Though it does get annoying to swap discs every time you play a game. I'm not sure how this would fit with your 8 year old.
