OS install crash

    I just built my computer and i am trying to install XP pro but during installation of xp the XP setup freezes.
    My specs are:
    nVidia 8800gt
    Asus p5k3
    Intel Q6600
    4 gigs of ram
    hitachi harddrive

    o yeah and i have a Rosewill perdormance 600w powersupply

    Where in the process does it freeze?

    thanks, and the os freezes during th setup part where it is actually installing all the files.

    I figured out that it is freezing when it loads the file driver.cab

    you need that file to load windows. is there any scratches on the topside of the disk that you see light thru when put upto the light? try cleaning the disk of any finger prints on bottom of disk in soapy water & soft cloth or kleenex.

    OK.. common problem, been discussed before. Seen it myself loads of times.

    you need to download active@killdisk (the free one is great).. stick it on a floppy or cd and boot it.. use it to wipe the partition you are trying to install on.. there is a file from the previous setup fail flagged read only lurking which the windows installer is detecting and failing to overwrite.. you only need to blank 10% or so of the drive to get a result. repartitioning can sometimes also cure the problem, but only if you install to the second partition.
