Real good news considering it will have full access to the RSX and SPUs, so hopefully will be a lot better than the original. Lets hope this makes video playback more compatible with more codecs!
Neat...sounds like they will have a lot more processing power now. I wonder if the DoD will jailbreak their 4,000 PS3 supercomputer to nearly double the performance.
will this work on 3.56 ofw are do you have to have a cfw i want to use linux on my ps3 but don't want to jailbreak it
If you don't want to jailbreak, then you are not getting otherOS back; Sony would rather stop sales of the PS3 than bring back OtherOS...and it looks like that might happen in at least one country.
I think it will be cfw itself. As it says it will replace game os. I hope he comes up with a loader that will boot from external or something. I want linux on the ps3 with full access but the kids still want game os.
Yeah...OtherOS without gameOS would be pointless; if all you want is OtherOS, you can downgrade to 3.15
Norway, one one front they are saying taking otheros from the ps3 may be illegal in Norway. On another front gitorious is hosted in Norway, and they are currently giving sony the finger saying they will not comply to any more DMCA requests, as it is not democratic, as sony is saying that the parties in question are guilty and hence must prove themselves innocent. This of course goes against all laws in any democratic state. Innocent until proven guilty, this is what civilised democratic states claim, yet with the DMCA and other laws it is guilty until proven innocent that these states are backing.
Heck, it is guilty until proven innocent anyway...do you have any idea how many people have gotten off of death row thanks to DNA evidence that proves their innocence 100%? And that is just high-profile murder cases...things get worse at lower levels. The DMCA is a handy tool for making a public point, but our government does not mind simply ignoring the laws and administering "justice" however they see fit.
but has for as i know once your on 3.56 ofw you can't downgrade to 3.15.if their is a way of downgrading your firmware. how do you downgrade your firmware?
I don't think you can downgrade 3.56 yet. As far as downgrading to 3.15 for other os I am not interested in that because linux on 3.15 doesn't have full access to the hardware. What this guy is working on should have.
If you are on 3.56, this probably does not apply to you, as I bet he is doing this on 3.55 Oh, and asbestos on 3.41 has access to the hardware.
Oh yeah.. Cool. I thought asbestos didn't have wireless. I will look into it in a few. Right now am tinkering with the new mm and rm that where released. Trying to decide which I like best.
