After reading many good reports about AnyDVD, I purchased it in order to
back-up my DVD's in fewer steps than using DVD Fab, VOBblanker, then Shrink, etc. It seems to work fine with Shrink but I have had no luck at all when trying to use Nero Recode, which I also purchased. After reading others posts, I "downgraded" to Nero 6.6.0.18, along with the appropriate Recode version. Again, after reading posts, I uninstalled Sonic. I also disable my"AntiVIR" virus program along with Microsofts anti spyware and yet I continually get "Out of Memory" errors when I try to use Recode, with AnyDVD running. I even tried ripping to H/D with AnyDVD and when I tried Recode--budda-bing, budda-boom-"Out of Memory. And by the way, it's not even a new release--it's The Skeleton Key.
    I have 1gig of RAM and am running a P4, with XP/Service Pack2.
This is my first attempt at a post; I will try to include my log from Nero. I hope someone can help. You have helped in many cases prior to my joining, so thank you for that.

I remenber seeing a post about the skeleton key and Nero Recode, something about a new arccos protection, looked under the search function, couldn't find it, but will keep on looking, which version of AnyDVD do you have? current version is 5.9.5.6. Let me keep looking and see if I can find it.

Thanks, BlivetNC. for your response. I do have AnyDVD 5.9.5.6. To further clarify, I have successfully backed up this DVD using Shrink but thought the whole fanfare about AnyDVD was that it would just run and any other program could be used. I really like the Nero suite and would like to use that for 'shrinking' the DVD's. As an aside, although I rarely use DVDXcopy anymore, even though I paid full price for that before the suit--and have since contacted the International company for the update to 4.0.3.8--that doesn't work either.

In all honesty, I prefer CloneDVD2 with AnyDVD for most of my backups, but will use DVDDecrypter and IMGBurn for DL disks. I really haven't used recode in a while, too slow, stops when it runs into a dirty disk, but keep it just incase. DVDXcopy, shudder, that was back in the early days my friend, still have it on disk somewhere. hated how the splash screen would come up at the start of every movie, had way too many read errors, etc.

people, even if you ripp with fabdecrypter or anydvd, it is a good idea to run the files thru vobblanker. this will ensure that the files won't give you "out memory" error.

    here it is.http://jsoto.posunplugged.com/vobblanker.htm

    Thanks, folks,
I was hoping I could do the backup in one step; which I did by using Shrink. I was basically seeing what AnyDVD could or could not do. I read many nice things about Recode--I didn't expect it to be quirky. However, my burner is getting old; it is a Sony 510A. The firmware is up to date but there hasn't been new firmware offered for a couple of years. Could that play a part?

@emoludlod or those that needed helps/interested

"Out of Memory" is a well known protection from RipGuard aka Macrovision. Use my newly revised "DVDFAB Decrypter + VobBlanker + Nero Recode 2" (FREE guide), here http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/334154 and you'll be a happy camper.

    Best of lucks to all.

My thanks to you, also, Alkohol. I'll read your link. I know I have printed some of your guides prior to my joining this forum. You are a great asset for those of us who need some help. My plan this morning is to use blanker since I have ripped to disc to my H/D. Then I'll give Recode another shot. I will get back with my findings. I'm beginning to think I didn't really need AnyDVD, afterall. In fact, I couldn't do Capote with it, although the program has since had two updates. But, I did do Capote in the manner that Alkohol just suggested, except that I used shrink.

To those who are interested, I ripped The Skeleton Key to my H/D using AnyDVD-ran that through VOBBlanker (just had blanker do the whole folder) and was succesful in using Recode to make it fit a DVD5. Thanks to all for your input and help. By the way, alcohol-that is a great guide that you linked me to.

Well, I'll be a monkey's uncle, I just received notice that a newer version of AnyDVD is available. It says it is a fix to newer Sony Arccos and Macrovision Ripguard errors with Nero Recode. I guess patience has its virtues.
