Hey guys. My wii has been sitting for a while now and i am completely out of the loop when it comes to updating and what not. Right now i have a 4.1 USA Wii with a WiiKey2 chip. I do have the hombrew channel currently running but since i have the wii key i do not need to use the loaders. My question is can i just continue to update normally through the network update on the wii or do i have to worry about it bricking my system. the only thing i care about is being able to play back ups and using homebrew channel to put wiiware/vc games on. oh and not to mention the occasional IOS for certain games like bleach versus crusade. If i loose the HB channel i can live with it. im just worried about the wiikey2 functionality in worst case scenario.
No worries about bricking through an online update, and the update won't damage your modchip either. Firmware 4.2 will block the ability to play import games without homebrew help though. It will also remove your homebrew channel, but you can reinstall it.
i know its alot to ask but do you have any links on how to install hbc if its been removed and how does it not allow imports with out hombrew. doesnt the chip take care of that. I only ask base on every now and then a game is only avaliable as the pal version or the few jap fighting games not released here.
you will have to update to 4.2 and doing this will remove the HBC to get it back again use larrys guide here http://forums.afterdawn.com/t.cfm/f...d_guide-all_systems_except_for_korean-823377/
Scrap is right. 4.2 will remove your homebrew channel and that is the guide you should follow for reinstalling it. As for import games, 4.2 blocks them, even with the modchip. To play import games on a 4.2 wii you need to install homebrew, some custom IOS patches, and the neogamma disk loader. All of which are included in that guide.
