    Hi All,

Got a copy of Nero Premium for xmas and have just downloaded a copy of DVDFAB Decrypter.

I have a problem in Nero though :( I can rip the DVD (Fantastic 4, 6.8ish GB) Recode it in nero then go to burn it and an error message comes up after it has done the caching business and starts burning saying that it is out of time with details of my DVD burner above and below.

It is really annoying ! Tried to copy a data file onto a disc and it did the same thing.

    Details;

Drive is a TSSCorp DVD +/- RW as fitted in current Inspiron 9300
Discs are Emtec DVD+R Premium Quality 4.7gb

I have saved the log file if anyone is interested !

The disk does actually appear to have a small amount burnt onto (its a different shade the to rest) at the centre where it should start.

    HELP !!!

Have had problems with Dell computers and burning DVD's b4 :( grrrr

Anyone else experience this or know how to fix it ?

    Thanks

    Jimmy

EDIT - Am Just updating Nero Premium to the latest version and will have a look for the DVD drivers on the dell site, i only just got the laptop though so they better be the up to date ones !

Go ahead and post your log file. Just be sure to edit out your serial numbers by typing xxxx over them or something like that. A log shows your firmware version (i couldnt figure out your drive from the description you gave) but a log would clearly show that. I don't think the media you listed is the greatest, but let's see what the log says.
This is what the firmware page shows for a tss corp drive, but i would check your model number first to be sure:
    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2015
Doc, kivory666 just loves discs with "premium quality" in their names.. usually that = crap media no offense meant.
Nero 7 path Program Files>Nero>Core>NeroHistory.txt Will list multiple burns and we only need the last one.
    Nero 6 path Program Files>ahead>nero>nerohistory.txt

Yep, i went ahead and bought Nero 7 Ultra.. Burnt 4 Brothers successfully with Nero Burning Rom and using a Verb DL burnt at 4x. :) sweet.

    Hi MaxBurn,

Here is the logfile, I managed to burn a CD with no problems earlier so perhaps it is the media ? Am a bit dubious about buying something else to test as last time i had a similar problem i brought about 10 different brands an ended up with loads of coasters ! Gave up in the end :(

    - haven't been thru the logfile yet but DVD burners have 2 lasers, one for DVD's and one for CD's...i know you said this is a new purchase but something to keep in mind

    - 7.x is up to 7.0.1.4b now - http://www.nero.com/nero7/eng/nero7-up.php

    - can't find any info an firmware but you did say this is a new purchase. Either way your burner's firmware is detecting the discs fine -
    - yup, Nero's too old to recognise your burner, update Nero

    - 4418MB is burning too close to outer edge of discs. If you use DVD Shrink, set target size to 4300MB in Shrink's preferences thus avoiding outer edge and not sacrificing much space

    - haven't come across that error before, update Nero and then do a 'simulation burn' instead of potentially wasting a blank disc, then paste that section of logfile here..

    Me again :)

been reading a few posts and it seems to be a good idea to remove INCD so will attempt this once i am back at home.

Checked what I dloaded last night, it is definately the Demo (comes up with this when going to install). I am almost 100% sure I went to the same place as your link Creaky, will check it out again when I get home, perhaps use one of the mirrors.

Shame I had to play F.E.A.R at lunch :)

    Ok am p*ssed off now,

Downloaded the update - [bold] Word of Warning [bold]

When you download and go to install the update, it appears as though you are installing the demo version of Nero 7, it is actually the update and works fine. Just so you know !

    Back to the problem.....

It has done exactly the same thing, given me the out of time error message,

I didnt do a simulated burn, couldnt see the option to do that ?

Will post the log in two seconds

wow unlucky. your drive isn't supported for some reason in that latest version of Nero -
i do remember a very similarly named drive to yours, i think it was the 532R or something, if i recall correctly the poster had to get rid of the drive cus it was so obscure and well, unsupported

    Thanks Creaky,

    Just my luck !

The drive is the current one that is shipping with all Dell Ispiron 9300 (unsure about other models but guessing it will be the same) Laptops when the DVD writer option is chosen.

I have a week off next week so will go on the war path with Dell and Nero and find a work around for this and let everyone here know how i get on and if there is a solution, the last thing I want is to replace the drive !

Is there a thread somewhere that list known incompatabilities with Nero and Drives ? Perhaps a link to this thread could/should be added in....

Can see this is going to be lots of fun (and interesting calls to India) to fix !

Have a good New Year y'all

    Jimmy

    Hi Again All,

Hope you all had a good New Years, my head still hurts !

Any ways, does anyone know of any good 'free' DVD burning software ? Figured it would be a good plan to test something else rather than Nero with my drive to see if it works....

Afternoon. I didn't drink too much myself.

Anyways, there's imgburn from www.imgburn.com from the guy who wrote DVD Decrypter. There's a couple more free burning progs but their names escape me. One of them might be called deepburner or something like that

    Me Again,

Still waiting for a response from Nero, submitted the enquiry 3 days ago :( grrr

Dell are useless as ever, sent there techies an email and got a crappy auto generated response... will wait to hear from Nero before contacting them again.

Tried useing a trial version of something called VSO which said the media was incompatible so will go and buy something else tomorrow and test again with Nero just in case.

Any recommendations for something that can be brought on the high street in WHS or Dixons etc...

    Jimmy

ah, you're from UK too. PC world is the only place i'd (hesitantly) recommend as their prices are too steep, though you sometimes get the odd sale. i and a few others round here use www.svp.co.uk, very good prices if you can absorb the £4.99 shipping charge. i only buy stuff when i know i'm gonna buy bulk so the £4.99 is then ok, this charge is the same up to a whacking great 10kg so is great value as long as you don't just buy the odd tub. my media recommendations are in my sig but here's also a link with a bit more info - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/229523

    Wahoo !

Was round a mates earlier and he had some Verbatim DVD-R's that he couldnt get to work in his burner (which funnily enough is in my old PC!) so i popped one into mine to give it a go...well guess what, it worked perfectly with the movie i was backing up, even plays in his stand alone Phillips surround sound system, sound is perfect and I couldnt see the difference between my backup and the original !

So there we go, it wasnt the DVD drive not being recognised by Nero but crap media.

DO NOT BUY EMTECS, VERBATIM ALL THE WAY !

All i need to do now is figure out how to backup my playstation 2 games :)

Thanks for your help Creaky :)
