i just built a pc and i have the intel e6850 conroe processor and its factory setting is 3.0GHZ and i overclocked it to 3.33GHZ but i cant take it any further. But my question is what are some good cpu stress test programs out there that i can download to test the stability of my machine
Before we get into testing for stability lets find out what you have. Could you give the names and models of your motherboard and memory as well? You shouldn't be having any stability problems with that processor unless you've missed a couple of important settings. I figure that chip should hit at least 3.5GHz without any problems, and 3.6 GHz with the right hardware.

Here is a little helpful guide on some a similar setup and chances are they will help you get started. An area that a lot of new overclockers over look is locking the PCIe bus to 100 and locking the PCI bus to 333 MHz. If they are not locked then when you overclock you are also overclocking everything that runs through those buses. One small point: The E8400 will overclock higher than the E6850 but a stable 3.5 to 3.6 GHz shouldn't be too hard. http://www.dvdhounds.com/forums/showpost.php?p=25201&postcount=1
Those components should be able to take that CPU higher than that. I'd wager 3.6Ghz should be easily doable.
i followed the instructions on the web site that you linked me to and the only thing that changed was that i was able to run windows overclocked at 3.5 ghz for as long as my cpu had less than 35 percent load i tried converting and burning a avi file and boom reboot. Not stable at 3.5 if there is any thing else or any other sites that you know about please lend a helping hand and share them with me
right not my temp is 20 degrees Celsius idle and it never gets any warmer than 32 degrees with a 100 percent load.
well the room stays at about 75 or 70 degrees and but the thing is that speed fan says one temp and then core temp says another so speed fans temp is always ten degrees lower than core temp so i used the temp from speed fan just to make me feel better but if any of you know why the two programs always have a ten degree difference please inform me of the answer
