Hi I have an HP compact computer, its about a yr and half old and it has been running fine until all of the sudden the other day a burning smell was coming from it. Now wen ever i turn it on it shuts down about 10-15 min later. So it seems to be overheating. I took the computer case off and gave it a good clean with compressed air, the fan is still runnign well. What could be the problem?

If there's a burning smell, it's not overheating - it's component failure, most likely the power supply. Get in touch with HP regarding a replacement PSU.

If the system is still under warranty, it should be free. If not, I couldn't say - if they charge you more than 80-90 dollars for one, they're ripping you off.

Ok. Just another quick question, is it possible for me to take parts from one computer in replace it with another part in another computer? Are some parts interchangeable or universal? I was wondering if i could take some parts from my HP and palce into my Dell Dimension 1100. More specifically im wondering if i can take the memory card or w.e its called and change them.

The RAM, possibly - if the two PCs use the same type. You will not be able to swap the power supplies though, as Dell use a proprietary system that isn't compatible with anything else. As far as I know HP don't do this, but their PSUs can sometimes be odd shapes meaning you have to use nothing but their own units.
