What, if any, are the security measures used on Overnet to block unwanted traffic, eg Peerguardian, IP .dat filter, etc. Cheers Dene
Well, anyone can use Peerguardian, which is a standalone program. Some people like it, some people have problems. If you have problems, you can also elect to load the blocked addresses that peerguardian uses into most firewalls. I've never personally used Overnet; I'm pretty happy with IRC and use eMule sparingly for older stuff. I've heard good and bad things, more good than bad (esp. from Praetor, lol) but that's not your question. I would have to assume that Overnet uses ipfilter.dat, but after doing a couple google searches and having a look at the Overnet forums, this is evidently not the case. So, nothing is built in. Try using peerguardian or converting the peerguardian blocklist for import to your firewall. More info on that can be found here. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/60268 .
