I may have goofed. Frys had such a big sale, I bought a Pacific Digital U 30291 RV1 DVD +- RW for $44. I asked the sale guy if it would work on my old Athlon 750 mhz system and he said "YES". Got it home and the box says XP or Win2000 and 800mhz. Does anyone know if this will work with Win98. I never upgraded b'cause the machine does what I want it to do. Also, my laptop is XP. All help appreciated. AR
Have you tried it yet, thats really the only way to know. Heck I'm running a Plextor 716A on a P3 667. (Burn at 4X lol) Which is a little more of a descrepancy than your sys req. Although, the operating system could also ginch yours up. Maybe one of the more experienced folks know more about that. For 10mins to slap it in, I'd try it. What do you have to lose.
hi like duckvideo says get it in and try it out! but remember win98 cant work with files over the 4gig threshold! so dont use apps theat do iso work! good dvd copy apps are dvd decrypter and dvd shrink both are free!
Newbie question...what is ISO? And second question. If I have the XP disc that came with my lap top is it advisable to try to upgrde my 750mhz Athlon to XP from 98se?? Thanks!
hi if you are useing win98 *dont* rip in iso mode (iso is like a zip file or rar file, its a wrapper of many files into one!) but ripping a 7/8/9 gig dvd to iso wont work as win98 has a 4gig threshold limit! so you must rip in file mode! and some files will be 1gig or less! i would keep win98 if all works fine! as it sounds your system is not quite up with the fast pc;s?
