Just started getting these - extremely annoying - where did it come from? I've got OneCare running for virus / spyware protection, which now freezes when it tries to update virus definitions. Any help on how to fix this is appreciated. Ran Hijack this and got the following: Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2 Scan saved at 10:03:20 AM, on 10/29/2008 Platform: Windows XP SP3 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16735) Boot mode: Normal Running processes: C:\WINDOWS.0\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS.0\system32\csrss.exe C:\WINDOWS.0\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS.0\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS.0\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS.0\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS.0\system32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows OneCare Live\Antivirus\MsMpEng.exe C:\WINDOWS.0\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS.0\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS.0\system32\svchost.exe C:\PROGRA~1\GbPlugin\GbpSv.exe C:\WINDOWS.0\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\WINDOWS.0\system32\wbem\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Bonjour\mDNSResponder.exe C:\WINDOWS.0\system32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows OneCare Live\winss.exe C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows OneCare Live\Firewall\msfwsvc.exe C:\WINDOWS.0\System32\alg.exe C:\WINDOWS.0\system32\wbem\wmiprvse.exe C:\WINDOWS.0\System32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows OneCare Live\winssnotify.exe C:\WINDOWS.0\system32\wscntfy.exe C:\WINDOWS.0\Explorer.EXE C:\Program Files\Unlocker\UnlockerAssistant.exe C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\GrooveMonitor.exe C:\Program Files\HP\HP Software Update\HPWuSchd.exe C:\Program Files\HP\hpcoretech\hpcmpmgr.exe C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_07\bin\jusched.exe C:\Program Files\eFax Messenger 4.3\J2GDllCmd.exe C:\Program Files\Microsoft IntelliType Pro\itype.exe C:\WINDOWS.0\system32\igfxtray.exe C:\WINDOWS.0\system32\hkcmd.exe C:\WINDOWS.0\system32\igfxpers.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe C:\Program Files\Nokia\Nokia PC Suite 6\LaunchApplication.exe C:\WINDOWS.0\Mixer.exe C:\WINDOWS.0\system32\ctfmon.exe C:\Program Files\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Messenger\msnmsgr.exe C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe C:\Program Files\eFax Messenger 4.3\J2GTray.exe C:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqtra08.exe C:\WINDOWS.0\system32\igfxsrvc.exe C:\Program Files\Microsoft IntelliType Pro\dpupdchk.exe C:\Program Files\PC Connectivity Solution\ServiceLayer.exe C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe C:\WINDOWS.0\system32\HPZipm12.exe C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Windows Live\WLLoginProxy.exe C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe C:\WINDOWS.0\system32\wbem\wmiprvse.exe R1 - Hi BrasilDoc, Your Log shows some infection.. Note: please let me know if you have a problem with downloading the cleaning programs and we can do it differently… You may have a Trojan that can block them… Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune & save it to your desktop. DO NOT use yet. Please download and install SUPERAntiSpyware Free • Double-click SUPERAntiSypware.exe and use the default settings for installation. • An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program. • If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and unzip into the program's folder.) • Under the "Configuration and Preferences", click the Preferences... button. • Click the "General and Startup" tab, and under Start-up Options, make sure "Start SUPERAntiSpyware when Windows starts" box is unchecked. • Click the "Scanning Control" tab, and under Scanner Options, make sure the following are checked (leave all others unchecked): o Close browsers before scanning. o Scan for tracking cookies. o Terminate memory threats before quarantining. • Click the "Close" button to leave the control center screen and exit the program. • Do not run a scan just yet. Reboot your computer in "Safe Mode" using the F8 method. To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup (but before the Windows icon appears) press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode". Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program. • Under Main "Select Files to Delete" choose: Select All. • Click the Empty Selected button. • If you use Firefox browser click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All • Click the Empty Selected button. If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt. • If you use Opera browser click Opera at the top and choose: Select All • Click the Empty Selected button. If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt. • Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program. Note: On Vista, "Windows Temp" is disabled. To empty "Windows Temp" ATF-Cleaner must be "Run as an Administrator". Scan with SUPERAntiSpyware as follows: • Launch the program and back on the main screen, under "Scan for Harmful Software" click Scan your computer. • On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive. • On the right, under "Complete Scan", choose Perform Complete Scan and click "Next". • After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click "OK". • Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click "Next". • A notification will appear that "Quarantine and Removal is Complete". Click "OK" and then click the "Finish" button to return to the main menu. • If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes" and reboot normally. • To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again. o Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab. o Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log. o If there are several logs, click the current dated log and press View log. A text file will open in your default text editor. o Please copy and paste the Scan Log results in your next reply. • Click Close to exit the program. Reboot to Normal Mode Make a Fresh HijackThis Log Please post the HijackThis log, and SUPERAntiSpyware Log in your next reply. 2OG
I used adware away free version to locate the threats, then got rid of them with hijack this. Now working normally, but I'll run the superantispyware now for good measure. Thank you for the help!
I was afraid that would happen…. Reboot your computer in "Safe Mode" using the F8 method. To do this, restart your computer and before the Windows icon appears press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode with Networking". That way you will have internet access from the Safe Mode and can download the necessary programs before the Trojan gets loaded and blocks you. In Safe mode after downloading ATF and SuperAntiSpyware follow the instructions to run both and then post the Logs. 2OG

Hi BrasilDoc, Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop. Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to the drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following : • Restart your computer • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually; • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear; • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter. • Choose your usual account. • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script. • Type Y to begin the cleanup process. • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot. • Press any Key and it will restart the PC. • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons. • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt (Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum). Next run ComboFix 1. Download Combo fix from one of these locations. * IMPORTANT !!! Place combofix.exe on your Desktop http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe http://subs.geekstogo.com/ComboFix.exe 2. Click start > run and Copy and Paste this in exactly, using the picture below for reference, then click OK. 3. Combo will begin to run DO NOTHING while this is happening. • It will kill a few processes and disconnect you from the internet. • If by chance it stops prematurely you can re-establish your internet connection by restarting your computer. • This needs to be done so the program can work most efficiently for you. Do not attempt to use the internet or anything else while it's doing its job for you. **Understand that things like your system clock changing and your desktop disappearing might happen. Do not worry, because all will be restored later. If when it's completed you can not get on the internet just reboot the computer Post the log from comboFix for me located in c:\comboFix.txt Also paste the contents of the Report.txt, back on the forum with a new Hijack This log 2OG
