I just made a DVD using the PAL format to send to Portugal. The log shows that the video mode is PAL.

I checked it on my DVD player, thinking that if it was made in the PAL format, I wouldn't be able to view it on my TV, but I could. Will it be able to be view abroad?

    Hi silkzipp
You player may accept both PAL & NTSC format. You can check the specs the your player here to see what all it accepts - just need the make & model:

If you want to double check that it's in Pal format here are 2 suggestions:
If you have AnyDVD by chance have it set to 'show information on new media'. A window will pop on give your the info and show what format it's in.

Or you can use Vobblanker to check the format (free).
    http://jsoto.posunplugged.com/vobblanker.htm

Put the dvd in the pick the ifo file under 'input video video manager'.
Then under 'title set' right click on the larget vob file. Go to 'video attrib'. The format will be listed there.

I checked out my player, Toshiba SDK750, where you suggested. I didn't read anything there that would suggest that it accepts both PAL and NTSC. I also used vobBlanker to check the DVD and it shows that the format is PAL under video attributes. I'm more confused than ever..

One of the comments on the drive said that it played pal and ntsc so looks like it does.
The dvd you made w/ vision is now in PAL format. Vobblanker confirmed that too.

edit: oops meant you dvd player not your drive :)

VobBlanker is pretty accurate, so if it (VobBlanker) stated that it's in PAL, then your buddy should be able to play the movie.

    Thanks for your help.

I hadn't looked at the comments, only the info above it.

I obviously don't know much about this type of thing so I'll ask what may be a really stupid question. Doesn't the TV have to be compatable to PAL/NTSC also.
