I have an avi with the following properties that I would like to prepare for use with Encore, to create a PAL DVD... Xvid 960x544 (1.76:1) @ 23.976 fps AC3 384 kb/s (5 ch) CBR I demuxed the audio using Virtual Dub, then I frameserved the avi with a resize filter in VD and encoded it using CCE (MPEG2). I tried encoding it at 25fps but, once imported into Encore, the audio was about 2 mins longer than the video. How do i get them in sync and keep the ac3 5.1? Also, what size should I be resizing to if i want 16:9 or 4:3? edit: I'd also like a fast solution, TMPGEnc said it was going to take 7 hours.. :S
Encode it to PAL resolution (using resize if needed in Tmpgenc, not virtualdub's resize filter), but DO NOT change the framerate. (this is where the audio skew happens). Vdub's resize is the cause of the 7 hour encode... Once you have the encoded video, run it through DGPulldown, changing it from 23.976 to 25fps, author and burn with your AC3.
OK, for the 960x544 file, I resized by using VD's filter (I chose 720x408 and then set the letterbox size to 720x576) then frameserved it and encoded using CCE (MPEG2, 16:9 aspect ratio) which took around 40mins... after reading jim's post I used DGPulldown to convert this file to 25fps, added the demuxed AC3 and all was good. Thanks. Now I come to a seemingly identical file, but with a resolution of 960x528, I do the same thing and it won't import into Encore (saying it needs to be 720/704x576). I tried resizing to 720x396 with letterbox at 720x576, didn't work. What am i doing wrong?
Stop using virtualdub's resize. Use Avisynth for CCE, or tmpgenc's built in one. Check your output bitrate as well. See if you can author it in something other than Encore.
