PAL, NTSC, and DVD players in Europe versus U.S.

I know that PAL is the dominant DVD format in Europe. But I think I read somewhere recently that more and more Europeans own players that are region-free and will play both PAL and NTSC discs. I may have read this read at Afterdawn, but I've searched and find it now. I'm in the U.S., and although I have such a player myself, I know that few Americans have them.

So just how common are the region-free players in Europe? Thanks in advance.

The vast majority of European DVD players can do PAL and NTSC. This is helped by the fact that Region 2 contains Europe(PAL, obviously) and Japan (NTSC) as well as Middle East, SA etc.

As far as region free goes, again the majority are region free, many come like that in the box. Others need a code, only few very old one from the big names needed to be chipped.
