okay, guys: i've changed many asian region-6 films from PAL to NTSC easily with vob-blanker, no problems. but i just got a 3-dvd set rich man, poor man, and i downloaded the files with dvd fab decrypter and then ran them through dvd shrink to separate the episodes so they were in 2-episode 3900-sized blocks. but when i ran them through blanker, and changed the PAL boxes to NTSC (which I've done many times before with total success), and then after re-ran the files through dvd shrink, they are showing up on the monitor (as it transfers the file to a new folder) as splotchy green blocks for most of the 10-min download-fileswitch, but then halfway through it looks okay. now as of yet, i haven't BURNED one of these to test them, as maybe i should, as maybe the splotchy green stuff is not really downloading that way, but i'm not sure--i think it might be. i am GREEN at understanding burning programs and figuring out how to use them, so i need explicit help and instructions if there is anything i can do to remedy this seeming-problem, if anyone here has come across it before. the dvd plays fine on my computer when i test it with dvd shrink and view it--it's only on the downloading part that it appears whacked.
@mixwell The dvd files play fine on the pc after it's run thru vobblanker? Only when re-encoding w/ Shrink? Since you already used dvd shrink 1st not really necessary to run thru again. You can take the files from vobblanker and burn w/ Nero. You changed all the vts files right? You could also try Nero Vision on the files ripped from dvdfab decrypter. You'll receive an message saying something like 'most files in pal format do you wish to keep this format' click No. @moooo This helps how?
thanks binkie no, i ran it through DVD fab-decrypter first to get rid of region 2 and to actually download the dvd files onto my hard drive (see below on why DVD shrink coold not do this), then through dvd shrink to separate the chapters (when i tried to run it through vobblanker by separating the chapters there, it would not work). so i ran it through dvd shrink to easily separate the chapters into burnable sizes without any compression, and then ran those through vobblanker to change PAL to ntsc, and that worked fine; then i omitted the re-running through dvd shrink and just burned them, and they are fine. i just do not know how to separate the chapters correctly on vobblanker, i guess--i changed the PALs to NTSCs, but i must have not dome something right with the other smaller files on the screen at that time. and as i said previously, dvd shrink would not even look at these discs unless i changed the drive's region code, and i'd rather avoid doing that. these region 2's were the only ones that dvd shrink wold not even look at first; all other 6's and 2's i've done had no problem being downloaded onto my computer with dvd shrink. any idea why? thanks.
Hi mixwell Hmmm the region code - well just a guess here but maybe the other ones weren't just limited to region 2 or 6. Maybe there were for several regions including region 1. I've done some anime from oversees that was like this - set to a few regions. Again just a guess. In shrink go to edit>preferences>file I/O tab and uncheck 'Check RPC2 drive region code when opening a DVD'. Better would be to have AnyDVD or DVD Region Free running. Not free but have free trials. These remove the region codes. If you do a decent amount of different regions may want to look into. Plus AnyDVD will break any copy protection out there. Or check here and see if there is hacked firmware to disable the region counter on your drive: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_search.php Now separating the chapters in vobblanker - haven't done that - just use it to blank out stuff and change things like to NTSC or aspect ratio. Here's some guides that may help: http://jsoto.posunplugged.com/guides.htm
Doesn't DVD-Decrypt V3.54 take care of removing the region code on ripping to the Harddrive? I have used it to rip region 2 Pal and did not have to change my drive region inorder to do this. I then run each VOB file that I want to convert to NTSC through AVS converter 4 from AVSMEDIA. I select MPG NTSC DVD quality output. Then take the individual MPG files through TMPGEN DVD author to create my own menues and chapters. I only run the output through shrink if I requires just a little re-sizing. Yes I realize that it doesn't convert the orig. menues and chapters but it does the job.
Yep DVD Decrypter will remove region code & RCE also. I don't think Shrink will always handles a different region than the drive's set one very well. But I usually have AnyDVD running in the background to take care of that. I don't convert the orginal menus either - I either leave them off or like you create my own. One day I may play with that
