When I turned on my DMR-E85H this morning, the display showed P 173:34 (the P had a short vertical line below the loop, so it may not be a P but an attempt at an R). The machine did not respond to the remote at all. Following the instructions in the troubleshooting section of the manual (p. 50), I held down the power button on the unit until it shut off.

When I turned it back on, the display showed WAITING, then SELF-CHECK. The TVGOS showed no listings. I turned the TVGOS off, checked Direct Navigator to see if my previous recordings still existed (they did), then turned TVGOS back on - the listings appeared.

Has anyone seen this error or happen to know what it is? The unit was not active in any way for several days (five maybe?) before this occurred.

    Thanks

That's not an error - the display shows how much recording time remains on the hard disk. It changes according to the record mode selected, and how much disk space is free.

For instance, mine shows R 8:19 because I have about 8 hours worth of space in high quality mode. Yours is showing R 173:34 because you have about seven days' worth of record time available!

    Thanks, MTKK ...

In all the time I've had this machine, that's the first time it ever displayed the HD time remaining. If you know, can you answer these two questions?

    1. Why, for no apparent reason did it decide to display that?
    2. How do you get rid of it besides powering down the unit?

I did several searches on the PDF version of the manual, but coudln't find anything relevant.

    Thanks

No idea - mine was like that from the start I think!

I wish I knew, perhaps someone else knows.

    Cheers, Matthew.
