Hi everyone, I've been reading the U99 problems posted here with slack jaw and glassy eyes! However, because I don't use the TV Guide feature, I have been experiencing an entirely different issue I hope some of you may be able to shed light on -- Sporadically -- but with growing frequency -- the dubbing fails partway into dubbing over from certain programs recorded on the HDD, in high-speed mode. This is only certain programs, and as of yet I have been unable to ascertain how certain programs cause the fail and how certain ones don't. The failed dubbing comes and goes in waves, seeming to disappear for weeks at a time, then emerging with many failure-inducing programs for a few days. Last night, for example, I tried to dub over two separate pairs of shows onto DVD-R and both caused a fail. In the case of the first dub, it was two one-hour shows, the first of which caused the fail, about 25% into the dubbing process. A message came up saying the dubbing had failed, and then disappeared after about five seconds. Switching to the DVD and going into Direct Navigator showed no titles on the disc. Going into the Disc Setting menu showed that about 1.34 minutes remained free. In the case of the second disc, it was the second of two other one-hour shows (unique from the shows on the first disc) which had the problem -- in this case the disc failed at about 70/100 in the dubbing process, producing the same error message. Going into Direct Navigator for the disc showed the first title but not the second title, and in Disc Setting about 34 minutes was listed as free on the disc. Trying repeatedly to dub over either of these discs in high-speed would produce the exact same failure each time -- disc after disc is ruined. Furthermore, putting any of these "trouble" programs in any combination with any other programs would produce the same error, about a quarter of the way into the offending program, wherever it lay in the disc. Now here's the catch: if I then dub over the same programs, in another mode such as FR or SP, the dubbing is successful. This has led me to believe that somehow a glitch develops in certain programs recorded to the HDD. Since editing and viewing the programs from the hard drive works perfectly fine, and I haven't been able to spot any kind of blip or disruption when viewing the programs on the HDD, I don't know what kind of glitch this could be, but it's obviously something serious enough to cause the recorder to fail a high-speed dub. This is just an assumption; I may be wrong. Lastly, this has occurred on a variety of different media, all of it name-brand. At the moment I'm using Maxell 8X DVD-Rs, and just before I was using Fuji 8X discs. The problem I've described occurred on both media. Also, I installed the firmware upgrade from the Panasonic website in mid-September during a particularly nasty spell of disc failures and it did not help this particular problem. I would very much appreciate any insight or help anyone could provide. This is getting very expensive: I've created at least fifteen ruined discs in the last week alone from this problem. Well, I have a similar problem - this time dubbing onto dvd-r discs. If I record in xp mode and then dub in fr mode to fit the disc then about 30 seconds into the programme the picture freezes and then it continues untill the end when the dubbing failed message comes up. It is really annoying, I have formatted the hdd and only had one programme on it and it still happens - so yes if any one can shed light on this I would be grateful. CHEERS!
Hi I to have been having a dubbing problem with a DMR-E85H It appears to be random, but with an increasing frequency.I'm using Princo 4x-R discs and the screen says "error has occured, please press enter", then "please check disc" then it goes to the TV guide. I ve read a little about the in the U99 thread but it does'nt seeem to be related to the divide function. The machine is about 1yr old. I'll look into the firmware upgrade that i've seem here but any help or suggestions wil be appreaciated. Thanks Steve
