I have been experiencing problems with scheduled recordings on my Panasonic DMR EH50. Sometimes the unit will not record a program that was scheduled with the TV Guide on screen menu while the unit is powered off. As soon as I power the unit on, it begins recording, almost as if it was sleeping and I had to wake it up. This doesn't happen with every program. Some programs record fine with the unit powered off. Has anyone else experienced this problem. The only answer Panasonic could give me was to return the unit for repair. I performed a factory reset on the unit and it functioned normally for a couple of weeks and then the problem reappeared. Any help would be appreciated.
Have the same problem only with the EH50 and DMR-E85H. Have had it in for service and they find nothing wrong. Set the E85H to record 8 programs while on vacation last week and only 2 recorded. I called Panasonic again and finally got someone with a brain over there. She is having me ship both machines in to be looked at by their technicians. Please call and complain and tell them you are not the only one (like they have been telling me). Will post updates after machines are sent in.
Did Panasonic ever fix this problem for you? I'm having this exact same problem with my DMR EH50. It records just about every show that I program, using the TV Guide menu, EXCEPT for "The Simpsons" on Sunday night at 7:00 pm. If I turn the unit ON at 7:01 or 7:02, it will begin recording; otherwise, it will not record the show. However, it records 5 or 6 other shows regularly, even when the unit is turned OFF. If you've discovered a fix for this, please let me know. Thank you!
The machine started to work OK, so I did not send it in. But then there was another power outtage and it did not work again. I kept calling and complaining and had another person call and set it up for me to send it directly to a Panasonic center in Elgin, Ill. I have received it back, but have not tried it as of yet. It is kind of funny because one of the things that they stated in the repair ticket was that they updated the firmware. I already was running the latest firmware, at least according to their webiste. If you were to purchase a new model today, you would see that the screens to program have been totally revamped. They must have found a problem somewhere. I will post another reply after re-setting up the machine. My suggestion is to keep bitching until you get some results.
I read something in another post where someone was having a similar problem and they traced it back to the unit being stuck in play mode. Basically, if you watch something off of the hard disk, you have to make sure your press stop twice when you are done to fully stop the machine. If you hit stop only once, the little "play" led will still be flashing. If you turn the unit off in this state, your scheduled recordings may not record. I have followed this advice and always make sure I press stop several times before turning the machine off. I haven't missed a scheduled recording since. I hope this helps.
I don't think it is because it is stuck in play. It only happens to me on Sunday, and I don't do anything different on Sat night. I will make a point of hitting stop twice on Saturday and see. I remember reading about this well about 2 years ago. I am sure they know what it is. I haven't called or dealt with it because I normally am home. But I sometimes forget and miss stuff.
