I encountered an unusal problem with my Panasoniic stand alone DVD recorder. Saturday, it would not record anything on American Movie Classics on a DVD-RW disc. Whether I attempted a timer recording, or just pressed the record button, I recieved an error messages saying that this was copyrighted material and could not record. I tried several DVD-RW discs with the same result. They would record other channels, just not AMC. ( I have my Comcast converter box hooked up to my DVD Recorder).

Strangely enough, I had no trouble recording this channel with a DVD-RAM disc. I generally use both DVD-RW and DVD-RAM discs. But I have better luck with DVD-RW discs when I use Nero for authoring. Does anyone have a suggestion?

I just checked the manual for your unit. There's a really confusing chart on pages 4-5 that explains what can and can't be recorded on particular discs. I suspect AMC was sending out a signal that the machine detected and then trigged something that made the machine behave as designed. Or maybe the machine didn't like the format of the RW you used.

This is very interesting. I had not run into this problem before. I have received an error message on other timer recordings saying the program was copyrighted and recording failed. But in each of those cases, the show did actually record. Thanks for your help.
