Tried to set this up yesterday after purchase from Costco. Received Error Message U71 after set-up and can not record anything from the tv. Called Panasonic Tech support and tech sounded surprised I would get this error on this machine since it is a newer machine and he thought all of the "problems" had been corrected in this machine. According to the manual error U71 means I an trying to connect the recorder via HDMI cable to something that is not HDMI. I only get the message when I connect the HDMI cable from the Panasonic recorder to my Phillips HD tv. Obviously my Phillips is HDMI. Tech support at Panasonic said to send the machine to Panasonic for servicing. But I am wondering if I connected everything properly. Has anyone else connected this recorder recently to a system utilizing DirectTV?

These are the conncections I made:
I connected the satellite in to the satellite box.
I connected the satellite box to the RF in on the Recorder
I connected the RF out on the recorder to the TV
I connected video cables (red, white, yellow)from the tv to the recorder
I connected the Hdmi cable from the recorder to the tv (this is where I get the error message)
i connected another hdmi cable from the satellite to the tv (view satelite TV from this connection on HDMI 1 connection on the tv)

    Any suggestions or advice?

Take your machine back to Costco and exchange it ...

O.K. I'm sure I'll probably have to do that. But I'm not that technical and I just wanted to avoid getting another machine and finding out I have the same problem all over again because I connected it wrong. If I have to tune the TV to a particular input to receive the satelite feed how does the recorder pick up the signal to record? The recorder is on a different connection.
