Panasonic LV75 won't play DVD-R

    My Panasonic LV75 portable DVD will not play any DVD-Rs, yet a friend with the same player plays the same disks just fine. The only difference between the players is that they were modded (for region free play) by different suppliers. Could that have anything to do with it ? I must admit that my player will also not play some older commercial DVDs. Recent releases are fine.
