I want to apologize to the mod's right off the bat if this is in the wrong section, after looking around I thought this was the best place to post my problem.

My family got a Panasonic Plasma TV (TH-42PX6U) last month the day before I got Gears of War. I had never seen a game played on a good HDTV until then and it blew me away. The game looked beautiful on the TV and I couldn’t have been happier. I later got a Wii and noticed Trauma Center and Red Steel didn’t taken up the entire screen even in forced widescreen mode, but Zelda looked just fine.

Well I just got a new Slim PS2 for Christmas, and FFXII. I noticed though that I am having the same issue with not only with FFXII but even the main PS2 Dashboard does not take up my entire screen, there little black strips on both sides of the image. I tried searching around on the net for people with the same problem and couldn’t find anything matching my problem. I am wondering if it’s because my TV might be a slightly off ratio.

Times like this I wish I had bought an LCD instead of plasma so I could just ignore problems like this without the worry of burn in

If anyone knows a solution, or maybe another piece of hardware to get around this It would help a bunch, as PS2 is the only thing I asked/wanted for Christmas and not being able to play it for fear of burn in would, suck

Some games/dash boards are not coded for widescreen. All 360 games support widescreen. As for zelda, when you say "forced widescreen" is that by stretching the image on the set? I am assuming you set the wii to widescreen 16:9 on the wii system menu because Zelda was in widescreen.

Here is an EXCELLENT site to give A/V info about games for all systems, PS2 and Wii included:

    http://hdgames.net/

Some games may still be letterboxed even in widescreen. Some ps2 games only give you widescreen in the actual game options menu. I havn't seen the PS2 menu in widescreen, doesn't mean it doesn't exist, I just haven't seen it.

Thanks for the site, think I figured out what the problem might be. I suppose the PS2 dashboard and FF 12 may be widescreen, they are not 480p, which might be the cause of them not stretching out to my screen correctly, just a guess.

Zelda plays perfect on my TV without forced widescreen, but Trauma Center and Red Steel even in forced widescreen don’t fit my TV, and they both happen to not be 480p, might be why they also do not fit.

The game will only be widescreen if it is coded that way. 480p does not determine widescreen. For example, god of war on the ps2 is available in widescreen through the in game menu, it is not 480p. Zelda iswidescreen, trauma center is not. I'm not sure about red steel, the link I posted would have that info.
