I downloaded this pandora jar standalone program that takes music off of pandora as it is playing. working great! but the file is only 64kbps. ick! I was ripping my cd's at 320, some of the 128 sounds like crap. What is this going to sound like on my home system? Did some research and found that even though it's just 64kbps it will sound very good. hmmmm.... not sure if i believe that. Not that I'm an expert and there is a good chance i won't notice unless i have something to compare it at the same time, but this process takes time downloading the music and I want to make sure I'm not wasting my time. Been there done that when I realized that it wasn't what i really wanted and i tossed all my labor. What are you thoughts?
no, 64 kbps will not sound good. if it sounds like crap on your computer, then it will sound like crap on your home stereo. BTW you don't need to rip your CDs at 320 kbps...thats a bit overkill. For the best results, use EAC (exact audio copy) and LAME as then encoder. use VBR (variable bitrate) at 192 kbps and you will get the best results...just follow the guide in my signature below.
That is because there are laws. Pandora streams at 128, much better, and 192 for the premium service. I am actually surprised they are allowed to stream music at that fidelity. You will need to purchase a real audio capture app. Make sure it captures off the audio card. They can capture anything your computer plays at that quality. It is very unlikely that you can hear the difference between 192 and live. That is the pracitcal or testable cut off for a hearable difference while 320 is the theroetical cut off. Babies can hear a 20,000 Hz note if it is loud enough but no one can pick out the abscence of 20,000 pitched tones in music.
