I just built a new computer. Processor I7 930 video card gtx 260 216 6 GB of RAM two 250 GB hard drives My second hard drive is not recognized by my computer at all in the bios or anywhere. I contacted the Asus tech support and they said that possibly the cables going to the hard drive were bad. I doubt it since everything worked just fine before my new build. I only have a 550 W power supply. Tech support said this could be causing the problem, does it seem like a likely cause.
That depends on who made your power supply...a corsair 550 will do it, a generic one probably will not (at least not for very long). BTW...SATA cables do go bad (the power cables too...so double-check that), usually when you are plugging and unplugging them, but sometimes just "because" after a few years of use. Typically, it is the connector that goes...the plug gets loose, and thus has poor or unreliable connection to the drive or mainboard. Your new mainboard should have come with cables...use those so Asus can't blame your old cables.
