I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 (yes poor me) out of the blue I have this white screen with the message

" This Computer # ------- ---- is protected by a password authentication system. You cannot access the data on this computer without the correct password. Please type in the system administrator password and press enter"

I have not entered a password and cannot get past this page.
Any help would be appreciated as Dell have been none.

    Thanks

I know it's not a Dell support site, but they are unless so I was hoping some normal people could help me out of the jam.

    Didn't mean to overstep...if I did...Sorry.

Is this a BIOS password? If so, you'll have to contact Dell to get the password they set up. If you set up the password, you'll need to go to Dell's website to see if there is a way to reset the password using a jumper or pulling out the BIOS battery.

What do you mean, out of the blue? You never had it before and now it shows up? If so, then either you set one up, a virus set one up, or someone is pulling a prank on you and set one up.

You didn't overstep, but it just never ceases to amaze me that people take the time to register here ( a site dedicated to/specializing in assisting in making backups of all media formats ) instead of an actual computer tech forum with people holding various certifications to assist you. I'm in no way saying that we don't have people like that here... I hold no certifications myself, but have been working on desktops/laptops for over 10 years now and still go to the source for my solutions.

Yeah this error message or password request is a white screen, I don't even get to Windows, I have not set-up a password and I can't get into the setup. I've googled a bunch of solutions, I have the bios battery out and booted with it out, only to get the same message.
I'm starting to think Dell did it...seeing as there are a few thousand threads about the same msg with all Dell Brands.

I'll call Dell and cry a little.

    Thx

Please report back and let us know how Dell support suggests that you fix the problem. Then let us know how you fixed the problem.

I googled Tech Republic and found this solution

Thank you I will remove the battery and hope it works.
I'll let you know what Dell has to say IF they say anything, my last call resulted in being accused of trying to breaking into the computer. LOL

After trying and failing with resetting the CMOS/BIOS by removing the battery I sucked it up and called Dell.
    They surprisingly were helpful....
The fix was to enter fkyz1rtk press ctrl and enter
You may have to this twice...I did and it worked. I then went to the setup and bypassed the BIOS Prompt for a password on startup and resume.
    No issues since.

    Thanks
