Alright guys...Im not sure what i should do. I currently have a 939 socket. Its old...should i go with 775 or the new 1366 socket? id rather not since its so pricey. I have a few things i would be keeping from my current system...EVGA GTX 260 core 216, Antec 900, 600 watt psu, WD raptor hd, and would use XP pro. All im looking to do is upgrade the mobo, cpu, cd drive since it will need to be sata, and also need ram. Im not looking to do sli anytime soon. One card should be fine.
Depends what you're using the PC for. For games, Socket 775 is fine. For video encodes and folding, the i7 is probably the better choice.
775 will be fine, it could well outlive 1366, as i7 wasn't meant to be a permanent home user platform. It was server technology that got thrown at the enthusiast market.
alright so what would be the best 775 mobo, cpu, and ram to get? Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P? Q6600 G.Skill 2gb 1066 Any options you can come up with would be good too
The UD3R will do fine unless you want to use two video cards, and in any case, Intel chipsets only support dual ATI cards. If you run nvidia, you'll have to settle for one. (No great loss, nvidia chipsets are terrible) A Q6600 is fine, but modern games really do best with 4GB of RAM. You can get Corsair XMS2 PC8500 (1066mhz) for cheap.
only reason i wouldent have 4 gigs is because im runnin XP pro...i didnt know you couldent run sli with nvidia cards on the UD3P.
