I left my hp media center pc m376n on while i went home for christmas for a few days and came back to find a black screen saying, "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key". That's really about all that the computer is capable of doing or saying right now other than getting into the BIOS settings. I think it's probably the hard drive has crashed. I don't have any recovery dvd's but have found you can order them off hp.com. I was wondering if these would do me any good or is all my data on the hard drive wasted? any response is appreciated! thanks
if use recovery disks than will probably lose everything as hd is reconfigured as shipped. take the hd out & install as a slave on another computer with similar os to see if can see your info or not. is the hd making any strange noises?
I am still waiting to hear a reply from HP's support. I don't even believe that the hard drive is making any kind of noise, let alone any strange noises at all. I will attempt to go hook the hard drive up as a slave and see if any information can be read and get back to you on that. thanks for your time.
the hard drive took a little longer to get out and i had a few distractions so i won't be able to connect it with another computer until later this evening or until morning due to the Big Red taking the field tonight! thanks for your help this far, and i look forward to getting back to this later!
